America's Museum

In 2004, I traveled to Washington, D.C. for the first time. I was awestruck at everything I saw-- from the architecture of the buildings and the history there to the amazing items within the Smithsonian. With 19 museum total, the Smithsonian is preserver of over more than 136 million objects!

I have two purposes in making the Smithsonian my focus for this blog. First, I wanted to delve deeper in the famous museum's collection to see what I could uncover. Of course, there are the more famous pieces, but I also want to find items that can occasionally miss the viewer's eye. My second purpose for this blog is to test my skills in Museum Studies. I recently applied to Johns Hopkins University for their graduate program in Museum Studies. Conveniently located in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian is their playground for school work! (Jealous!) I hope what I have learned in the field of museum work and curating can be put to good use for this project, and future practice for grad school! : )
